Using Blog-Timeline for Sections

Is it possible to use the monthly-timeline view (a.k.a. blog-timeline) for additional views such as sections? I have a fairly large website and I really like the monthly-timeline view but many earlier posts can get buried in earlier pages since the latest posts are first. What I would like is to clone the monthly-timeline view several times so that instead of having one page with the monthly-timeline view, I have several pages which each have a different filter criteria such as "blog category= pets" or "blog category=kids" or whatever. This way people can just get the content that they are interested in but they still have the benefit of the monthly-timeline layout. But whenever I try to clone the monthly-timeline and change it's path, it breaks and does not display content. I have had a lot of success doing this with the blog post medium and blog post large views, but none with the monthly timeline. So, basically I'm looking for a way to clone the monthly-timeline view and create a new path other than "/blog-timeline" (for example something like "/blog-timeline-a") so that I can use different filter criteria on this view. Can this be done?
