Issues with portfolio view

Related to my email on October 2nd, hoping I can get a reply here. First question: What field names (human-readable and machine readable) can be changed in the portfolio type before the views stop functioning? I've been playing with this content type but on anything but the demo site I lose functionality and can't figure out which less, template, etc. files need to be changed. Second question: If I want to use the portfolio content type like it is with a term tied to color but add additional filtering, how could i do that? In my case, my portfolio items will be bikes, so a user could look for a red bike from 1997, for example. Basically I want to add additional vocabulary filters to the view filter. You can see the way I tried to set it up via the login/domain info I emailed you. Thanks for your help.
