Enabling Evolve theme modules breaks site

I am admittedly not a pro with the backend of Drupal, so please excuse any dumb mistakes :)

I'm working with Drupal 8 on a site hosted by GoDaddy. We're using PHP 7.1 (though this can be changed). I am able to install the Evolve theme manually onto a subdomain (webdev), but when I go through and start to enable modules, the site quickly breaks with a "The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later." error message. Deleting the modules via FTP restores the site, but without the modules the site can't do what it needs to.

One common error I'm seeing in the logs is this:

Symfony\Component\Routing\Exception\RouteNotFoundException: Route "dexp.settings" does not exist. in Drupal\Core\Routing\RouteProvider->getRouteByName() (line 202 of /home/MYSITE/public_html/webdev/core/lib/Drupal/Core/Routing/RouteProvider.php).

Any insight?

I am getting the same error. Fresh install of Drupal 8.5. What was the resolution?
